Find a Landscape Contractor

This guide will offer tips and advice on how to efficiently find a qualified landscaping or lawn care service company for your property:

1.) The best place to look for a lawn care or landscaping professional is online. The internet allows you to browse through many companies from the comfort of your computer.

2.) After you've found a few companies, interview prospective companies. Tell them what you need done and let them quote you a estimate.

Be sure to find out what role the person you're speaking with plays at the company. Are they a sales rep, estimator, supervisor, or owner?

Will they perform all the requested services or do they subcontract specific work to other local companies?

Tips: When possible, try to work with a local business owner because they spend the money locally. Be sure to get an detailed estimate of the services you'll be paying for. It does not have to be super specific, but services promised need to appear on paper to reduce the chances of miscommunication.

3.) Perform a reference check by contacting past customers and inquire if the company did a good job in the past. Did the contractor stay within budget, did they complete the project on time, and check to see if they were happy with the final results.

Tip: Be sure to find out if the company has liability insurance before performing a reference check

4.) Reach an agreement with the contractor and finalize it. Always insist on a contract. It doesn't have to be complicated. This will help reduce the chances of there being any "surprises".

Tips: Be sure to find out when the company intends to perform the services. It's not fun for someone sleeping during the day to be awaken by lawn equipment! Also, always give the landscaping company adequate time to fix any problems you bring to their attention. They are people just like you and me and a little bit of courtesy goes a long way.
